Campaign Statement

I am honored to be selected as a candidate for the Central Plains Geographic Area Director.  Please allow me to introduce myself and request your consideration of my candidacy.  My interest in serving on the NHPCO Board of Directors comes from my commitment and passion for advancing quality end of life care.  

NHPCO’s role is to listen, hear and focus on the common purpose of high quality, value-based service for patients and families facing advanced illness and end of life.  NHPCO has been very diligent in being a tremendous resource to promote, advocate, educate hospice and palliative care providers regardless of program type, size or tax status.  Building and maintaining strong relationships between NHPCO and state associations is critical, especially for rural programs. In the times of heightened scrutiny and numerous challenges for hospice providers, there is need for NHPCO leadership, vision, advocacy, education and facilitate a unified voice of providers—NHPCO offers that role for providers.  A Geographic Area Director is a key factor in bridging the local, state and national communication.   If elected as a Central Plains Geographic Area Director, my commitment is to uphold the mission and values of NHPCO and be a voice for the Central Plains Geographic area.

I have great admiration for NHPCO Staff and Board Members for their leadership, advocacy, education and being the voice for hospice and palliative care providers on a national and international basis.  The vision, strategies, dedication and collaboration are pertinent to each one of us as providers.  Every person served by hospice and palliative care deserves excellence from highly skilled staff and organizations that have the high values and are committed to organization ethics.  My passion has led me to advocate with legislators; welcome opportunities to address a Senate hearing and MedPAC; develop a community-based palliative care program when many said it could not be done; to befriend and assist rural providers as they work diligently to serve individuals in their communities; to work within the health systems to provide insight to how hospice and palliative care can be a solution to solve some of their most pressing issues and benefit patients and families.  I have served on several committees including my current membership on the FHSSA /National Hospice Foundation Board; the NHPCO Rural Task Force and the NHPCO Strategic Planning Committee. If elected, it would be my privilege to serve as the Central Plains Geographic Area Director with other outstanding leaders to advance quality end of life care and be a voice for Central Plains Geographic Area hospice and palliative care providers.
