This course will provide an overview of the most common bloodborne pathogens, modes of transmission, exposure reduction practices, protection and safety standards. The intended audience is home health and hospice aides and all home care and hospice clinical care providers. This course meets the home health and hospice aide requirements from CMS for 12 clock hours of education per year.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:
- List the most common bloodborne pathogens that pose the highest risk in health care settings
- Explain how bloodborne pathogens are spread
- Describe safe work practices and standard procedures to follow when exposure to bloodborne pathogens have been identified
- Describe programs initiated to reduce the risks to healthcare workers such as the Hepatitis B vaccination program
In order to complete this online course, the participant must view the entire course, correctly answer all case studies and quiz questions and complete the evaluation. No CE/CME is offered for this course.
