This course will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementia and provide strategies for caring for the patient in the home environment. The course discusses the causes of dementia and how to safely and effectively care for patients with the various types of dementia with a focus on helpful hints and guidelines to assist with the ADLs.
Objectives:
- Define the role of the caregiver in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementia
- Define Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementia
- Differentiate between the types of memory loss that may be early signs of dementia versus "normal" forgetfulness
- Identify helpful tips in providing ADL's to patients with Alzheimer's and related dementia
