The fifth in a series of ten pediatric palliative care modules, The Spectrum of Complex, Chronic and Fatal Conditions in Pediatric Palliative Care provides an overview of the most common illnesses and their related trajectories encountered by palliative care services. The module will help you determine the appropriate conditions and timing for a palliative care consult/referral and identify key roles that the pediatric palliative care team can provide for children and their families coping with a host of life-threatening diseases whose course is generally long and complicated.
Objectives:
- Describe at least five situations in which a palliative care consult would be appropriate
- Determine appropriate timing for a pediatric palliative care consult along an illness trajectory
- Differentiate which situations call for palliative care to provide a supportive role vs. situations that call for palliative care to become the patient’s medical home
- Familiarize you with some of the most common illnesses the pediatric palliative care and hospice practitioner sees
- Provide background on those illness trajectories most commonly seen in pediatric palliative care and hospice settings
- Illustrate the services the pediatric palliative care team and hospice care team can provide and the most appropriate time for referral
In order to complete this online course and obtain CE/CME credit, the participant must view the entire course, correctly answer all case studies and quiz questions and complete the evaluation.
You will have access to this course for 90 days from the date of purchase.
