Understanding Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease is available for 90 days after enrollment.

This course will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease, the causes, risk factors and effects on the brain and associated medical complications. The behaviors that patients exhibit in the seven stages of dementia and strategies for caring for these patients in the home environment, as well as how to help manage the behaviors seen in progressive dementia and Alzheimer’s disease will also be reviewed.

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:

• Distinguish between Alzheimer's disease and other dementias
• Describe the behaviors a patient exhibits in each of the seven stages of dementia
• Identify the key components to help manage the behaviors seen in progressive dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
• Name the types of medications commonly used to treat behavioral and psychiatric symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's disease
