We will discuss powers of attorney; health care surrogates and advanced directives; what to do if there are conflicting documents; appointing a guardian; is there a difference between a guardian and health care surrogate; using proxies and who may serve as a proxy.

As an attorney, Ms. St. John has represented health care entities and practitioners before the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, CMS and the Florida Department of Health. She has also litigated cases at the Division of Administrative Hearings. Additionally, she counsels health care entities and professionals as to compliance with Federal and State Stark and Anti-Kickback laws, HIPAA, and other federal and state health care laws.

Susan L. St. John, Esq. practices in the areas of health law, estate planning and probate, tax law, business planning and civil trial law. Ms. St. John counsels individuals and families on estate planning, including wills, durable powers of attorney, health care powers of attorney, living wills, trusts, and the preservation of family wealth.

Ms. St. John received her Juris Doctorate from the FSU College of Law. She received her Masters in Tax Law from the University of Florida Fredric G. Levin College of Law. Ms. St. John graduated from the University of Florida, where she received her B. S. in Accounting and was inducted into the Beta Alpha Psi Accounting Honor Society.
