We Can Do This! The Adventures of Mary Maven

We Can Do This!
The Adventures of Mary Maven
and Hospice of the Good Intentions

To help educate hospice staff about QAPI—and put the abstract notion of quality to work in day-to-day practice—NHPCO’s Quality Partners program developed an 80-page fictional story about one program’s journey toward compliance.

The story chronicles “The Adventures of Mary Maven and Hospice of the Good Intentions,” a medium-sized hospice which learns to embrace QAPI and the value of performance improvement while building an organizational culture of quality.

We Can Do This! can serve as an excellent training tool for staff at all levels of your organization. At the end of each chapter, you will find questions concerning the content covered in that chapter. These questions, along with the answers, can be found below.

“This is a great read for all members and all disciplines of the hospice team. It captures the true setting of how QAPI is going to manifest in our hospices. The monograph also captures both sides of the brain as some will hear the story of Mary Maven and relate to her story, while others will be waiting for the moral of the story, which is … get your projects going. Qualitative and quantitative are now friends.”
