Hospice and palliative care is at a crossroads. Faced with unprecedented budget challenges and constraints while holding steadfast to the mission and vision that has sustained hospice pioneers for almost 40 years and pursuing opportunities to better meet community needs, it is time to “secure our roots” and “expand our reach.”  Given the current policy, regulatory and financial environment, hospice and palliative care providers are challenged to overcome obstacles and simultaneously prepare for an evolving future.

Securing our roots… the image evokes not an entrenchment in current practices but rather an opportunity to ensure our communities know that excellent care at the end of life is a right, not a privilege. Expanding our reach: developing new and creative opportunities to expand care; looking beyond the borders of the US to those who desperately need – and deserve quality hospice and palliative care.

New and experienced leaders have one very important thing in common – the need to group professionally. Each year NHPCO designs new educational programming for the Management and Leadership conference, reflecting the latest trends and innovations in hospice and palliative care and addressing all aspects of management and leadership.

Who Should Attend
Leaders of end-of-life care providers, including executive directors, board members, finance officers, state leaders, medial directors, clinical managers, development staff, compliance officers, marketing, education, and outreach staff. In addition, the Management and Leadership Conference (MLC) offers an opportunity for professionals in related fields, such as aging, healthcare, social service, government, academic, scientific, business and other fields, to interact and learn with the national experts on end-of-life care.

The 2010 Management and Leadership Conference will provide opportunities for attendees to:

  • Engage in effective change management;
  • Integrate the indispensible and essential components of hospice and palliative care;
  • Identify innovative approaches that expand the reach of hospice and palliative care;
  • Discuss changes in the regulatory, public policy and healthcare landscapes that impact hospice and palliative care;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of advocacy strategies to engage, influence and promote hospice and palliative care to elected officials;
  • Illustrate methods of providing quality, evidence-based, ethical, effective and efficient end-of-life care;
  • Demonstrate quality assessmentand performance improvement strategies and successes;
