FISS Billing Glitches for Occurrence Code 55 and Referring Physician

CMS released a quarterly update to the FISS system on October 1, 2012.  As a result of the update, two billing glitches occurred and needed a fix.

Hospice Claims Processing Issue Update

This morning, Friday October 12, 2012, NHPCO received communication from CMS about the billing glitch that is affecting all hospice claims.  CMS reports that a “fix” has been developed for the certifying physician billing issue (2310F) and if testing goes well, the “fix” will be in production on October 19, 2012.

FY2013 Hospice Payment Rates

Summary at a Glance:

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has released the FY2013 Medicare Hospice payment rates. These rates show an increase of 1.6% over FY2012.  The cap amount is set at $25,377.01 for the cap year ending October 31, 2012.

Supreme Court Decision on Health Care Reform

National attention has turned to the Supreme Court decision declaring  the bulk of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) constitutional.  Specifically, the Supreme Court noted that the individual mandate enforcement mechanism can be viewed as a “tax” and as such, falls within the power of Congress to levy taxes.  In addition, the Supreme Court noted limitations on the Medicaid expansion under the ACA.
