NHPCO Senior Vice Presidents

Meet the Senior Vice Presidents leading the team at the National Center for Care at the End of Life.

John Mastrojohn III, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Mastrojohn also serves as the Executive Director of the National Hospice Foundation.

Mr. Mastrojohn has over 20 years of experience in healthcare leadership with the past 15 years in end-of-life care. He served as founding director of Palliative Care and Hospice Services at Summa Health System in Ohio.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Akron and holds a Master of Science in nursing administration and a Master of Business Administration degree from Kent State University. Mr. Mastrojohn served as a US Fulbright Fellow in Hungary focusing on end-of-life care development. 

Cathy L. Gibney, CPA is Senior Vice President, Office of Administration for the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and its affiliated organizations. Ms. Gibney joined NHPCO in September 2007 with many years of not-for-profit financial experience. During her varied not-for-profit career she has been involved in automating finance department processes, federal grant management, software conversions of financial/membership data to new platforms as well as the purchase of a headquarters building for financed with tax-exempt bonds.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park- College of Business & Management. While a student she was a member of the business honorary Beta Gamma Sigma, as well as the sorority Delta Delta Delta.

Ms. Gibney is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
