Claire Tehan is NHPCO’s Leadership Coach for MDP Level III. Claire is an organizational consultant and leadership coach based in Los Angeles, California and adjunct faculty at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) in San Diego, Ca. She has 25 years of executive leadership experience in hospice and non profit hospital systems prior to starting her coaching practice. Claire has a BA from Case Western Reserve University, a Master’s from UCLA and is a Master certified coach who trained at the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara. Additionally, she has a PCC credential from the International Coaching Federation.

Claire was the Founder and CEO of TrinityCare Hospice, the oldest nonprofit hospice program in Southern California. From 1978-2005, she guided its development into one of the country’s most successful and respected hospice programs. She has broad experience in operations, business development, mergers, joint ventures, Board development, strategic planning and fundraising.  Her leadership experience ranges from community based health care organizations to large multi state hospital systems. She has been recognized by her peers for her role in the development of Hospice care in the United States with a Founders Award from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and a Life Time Achievement Award from the California Hospice and Palliative Care Association.

Coaching Approach

Claire brings many years of experience in executive, management, and governance roles to her coaching practice. Claire’s integrated consulting and coaching practice started in health care, initially working with executives and managers in hospices throughout the United States, as well as hospitals and affiliated health care organizations. She has the ability to translate vision and strategy into practical and achievable results.  She helps leaders mobilize their teams and to achieve results. Her goal is to facilitate a client’s effectiveness by increasing leadership competencies in current and/or future roles.  She is  known for her ability to build strong personal relationships and to help others live with a greater sense of authenticity and purpose in their professional and personal lives.

Claire has worked with leaders and organizations spanning 30 industries, from small, privately-held, for-profit, non-profit and employee-owned to the large, publicly-held, multi-national Fortune 500. Representative industries include Health Care, Higher Education, Financial services, Telecommunications, Information Technology, Internet Services, Utilities, Manufacturing, and Business Services.
