This session was recorded at NHPCO’s 25th Management and Leadership Conference in Washington, DC.

Just as trees with strong roots are best able to withstand strong winds and climate changes, so are end-of-life care providers able to survive if they hold fast to the roots laid down by our founding leaders. Our survival depends upon our ability to reach out to new patient populations, serve new communities and identify new sources of revenue in the context of our values framework. Seem impossible?

In this session, NHPCO’s President and CEO Donald Schumacher and Medical Director for Research and Quality, David Casarett will discuss specific ways that hospice and palliative care providers and professionals can work with NHPCO to “Secure Our Roots and Expand Our Reach.” Providers large and small, for-profit and not-for-profit will learn specific strategies NHPCO is implementing to safeguard our values and position hospice and palliative professionals to better serve the patients of today, tomorrow and 2020.

  • Discern key values and tenets of hospice and palliative care that transcend regulatory, economic or industry changes
  • Discuss the strategies NHPCO is implementing to expand access to quality end-of-life care
  • Identify specific actions that professionals can take to expand end-of-life care provision beyond the current limitations of the Medicare hospice benefit
