CE/CME Credit Available: Nurse

Module Description

Emotional Intelligence provides the opportunity for you to evaluate your emotional intelligence in your management role as well as to learn new strategies for creating a more emotionally intelligent work environment. This online module also offers an opportunity to become part of the ongoing learning community that is part of the Hospice MDP.

Module Objectives

Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

      • Discuss the role and importance of emotional intelligence as it relates to hospice managers;
      • Discuss the four core skills of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, other-awareness and effective relating;
      • Identify emotional triggers that affect hospice manager performance;
      • Demonstrate use of the “pause intervention” to regulate emotionally charged responses;
      • Describe a method for shifting a potentially destructive encounter into an effective encounter

Module Structure

The module will be instructor-facilitated and will be conducted online over a period of four weeks. During this time you will read online articles, develop solutions to case studies, and take part in ongoing online discussions.  You can expect to spend 2 – 4 hours per week in these activities.

Participants will determine their own schedules for completing the course work; online learning does not require that you be in a classroom at a set time, which is a perfect arrangement for busy hospice managers! Completion of the module does require, however, that you participate in weekly assignments and post them by designated dates.
