Johnnie Nettles
Specialized Volunteer Service
Lester Dierksen Memorial Hospice, Texarkana, TX

Johnnie Nettles is a lifelong cowboy with a passion for helping others. Having lived most of his life in Texarkana, TX with his wife of 54 years, Ms. Terry, they raised 2 daughters, and now enjoy 5 grand daughters, and 2 great grandsons, with a third on the way.  When Mr. Nettles retired in 2007, he found himself looking for things to keep him busy. Among other things, he volunteered for Dierksen Hospice, providing companionship and support to their patients. Then, in 2014 after a devastating injury, and losing the ability to continue his life-long passion of breaking and training horses, he was “gifted” a rescue pony, Little Man. From that, not only did he begin to heal, he grew his volunteerism into a type of ministry.   Today, with over 2,000 volunteer hours under his belt, he is no longer looking for things to keep him busy. His heart and his schedule are both full.
