Faculty:

Holly Davis, MS, APRN

Holly Davis has been a nurse leader in the field of pediatric hospice and palliative care for more than 20 years. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and went on to complete a Master of Science in Palliative Nursing from Daemen College in 2007. Holly has built and lead community-based and hospital-based pediatric hospice and palliative care programs in multiple states, working closely with State Medicaid Offices and other state stakeholders on the implementation of the concurrent care for children. Currently, Holly serves as the Assistant Vice President, Clinical Services at VIA Health Partners in Charlotte, NC where is provides leadership to inpatient hospice facilities and the Kids Path Program. Since 2014, Holly has served as the co-chair of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization’s (NHPCO) Pediatric Advisory Council. She was selected to represent NHPCO in 2020 on the National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care Pediatric Task Force, now the Pediatric Division, where she is the Chair Elect to the Division. Holly is the proud wife of Retired Army veteran and the mother of 4 boys.

Jessica Sturgeon, CLS, MT-BC, HPMT, NICU-MT

Jessica Sturgeon is a board-certified music therapist and child life specialist that has been active in the pediatric hospice field for 10 years as a clinician, educator, and contributor. She holds additional certificates in hospice and palliative care music therapy as well as Rhythm, Breath, and Lullaby NICU music therapy. Currently serving as the Director of Pediatric Care Coordination at Capital Caring Health, Jessica is primarily responsible for initiating and maintaining relationships with healthcare providers in advocacy for the education and inclusion of concurrent care services for pediatric patients in the DC metro area. She has served on NHPCO’s Pediatric Advisory Council, Education Committee, and continues to participate with the Pediatric E-Journal Workgroup. She has contributed several articles to the Pediatric E-Journal and was recently a contributor for the publications Heartsongs: Pediatric Hospice and Palliative Care and The COVID Chronicles.

Christy Torkildson, Ph.D., RN, PHN, FPCN, HEC-C

Christy is professor and program lead for the MSN – Public Health Nursing and Health Care Quality and Patient Safety programs at Grand Canyon University and the Executive Director of the Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition of California. Christy chairs the Pediatric e-Journal Workgroup, a project of NHPCO and the longest, continuous, peer-reviewed publication focused on pediatric palliative and hospice care in the US. She also serves on the Pediatric and Ethics councils for NHPCO. Christy serves on several boards and professional organizations and was honored to be named a Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing by the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association. Christy received her BSN from the University of Miami, Florida, her MSN from the University of Phoenix, and her Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. She holds two post-graduate certificates in Healthcare Ethics and Pediatric Bioethics and is a certified Healthcare Ethics Consultant and Pet Therapist with her golden retriever, Sundance. Christy lives in Gilbert, Arizona.
